Asia Regional Office
MAP's Office in Asia
The Mangrove Action Project (MAP) established it's first regional office in Thailand in 2001 as the Southeast Asia Office. The primary focus was to develop and support working networks in promoting MAP’s overall goals and objectives. During this time it developed extensive collaborations and partnerships in the region. It also continued co-managing programs with MAP USA, such as the annual MAP Children's Art Contest (which resulted in the Mangrove Art Calendar project).
After several years of networking, MAP broadened its scope to oversee projects in both Southeast and South Asia, ultimately changing its name to the MAP-Asia Office. In addition to maintaining strong conservation networks in the region, MAP-Asia began co-funding and coordinating projects and workshops through collaborative efforts in:
- Andaman Islands
- Bangladesh

MAP-Asia staff also work closely with regional partners within Thailand (including Wetland International-Thailand, Andaman Discoveries and Naucrates Conservation Biology) in promoting sustainable community livelihoods and ecological conservation. These collaborations provide support to the wide array of projects MAP Asia has undertaken since its founding.
MAP Information Sheets: MAP often receives inquiries on a number of mangrove related subjects, so we've decided to develop a series of information sheets which will compile and synthesize the basic information on a selected topic. The summary paper will not be more than five to six pages in length including a list of references and additional reading. Information sheets will be revised from time to time to keep them up to date. The first information sheet available is on shrimp aquaculture and other planned topics are carbon sequestration, climate change and mangrove products.
