“Education is an essential element of the global response to climate change. It helps young people understand and address the impact of global warming, encourages changes in their attitudes and behavior and helps them adapt to climate change-related trends.” – UNESCO
Imagine yourself as a child, MAPster.
The world is changing around you. By the time you’re an adult you may have to escape rising seas that threaten to claim your coastal home. The fisheries you and your family have relied on for generations face collapse, as the ocean turns acidic.
But you know it’s not too late, because you’ve been taught all about the marvelous mangroves that protect your home. The mangrove teacher came to your school, and turned what you thought was just a tangle of roots into the roots of the sea. Those trees protect you, and they help take care of the world – so you learn how to take care of them in return.
Tanny Onsalo from Venezuela was one of the first students to learn from the Marvellous Mangroves curriculum, and it changed her life: “In class we did many of the activities – like microscopic analyses – that are outlined in Marvellous Mangroves and found them a great way to learn! It changed the way I think about mangroves as an incredibly important ecosystem.”
Now in her twenties, Tanny is one of the next generation of mangrove stewards.
You can help combat climate change by opening the world of Marvellous Mangroves to even more children, MAPster. Your support means more Mangrove Clubs, more microscopes, and more children who grow up without the shadow of climate change in their lives. donation of $35 today*.
Thank you for being a mangrove hero!
