"If there are no mangroves, then the sea will have no meaning.  It is like having a tree without roots, for the mangroves are the roots of the sea..."

Heard around here…

“…the major impact of the shrimp farm industry is taking food and livelihood away from the producer nations in the global South and shifting the production via export to the wealthy consumer nations in the North, where there is no shortage of food for the majority of residents in these more industrially developed nations.

This is robbing the poor to feed the rich, then rationalizing this as some kind of practical solution to produce more fish/shrimp to keep up with the increasing demand.

The problem is that the increasing demand is coming from over-consumers who are not in real need for the product to survive, while those suffering loss of their natural fisheries and resource base are in serious need when this local access to fish/shrimp is diminished, lost or denied.”
