Special Issue of Aquatic Botany on ‘Mangrove ecology – applications in forestry and coastal zone management’ dedicated to the memory of Samuel C. Snedaker.
This Special Issue is in my opinion complementary to the Special Issue of Global Ecology and Biogeography Letters 7(1) edited by C.B. Field & R.J. Whittaker in 1998, and, to the Special Issue of Journal of Sea Research 59(1-2) on Mangrove Macrobenthos edited by S.Y. Lee and S. Dittmann earlier this year, and we hope it is a worthy update of some major themes in mangrove research worldwide.
No less than 54 authors originating from institutes on all continents have contributed to the successful finalisation of this special issue, and are hereby thanked by the Editors.
On behalf of my Co-Guest Editor Nico Koedam and myself, I take the opportunity to thank Elsevier Science and its Aquatic Botany staff, and to Jan Vermaat, Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
We hope you will all be delighted reading the papers below, we hope that you will widely publicize the state-of-the-art mangrove reviews in our special issue and we wish you all the best in your future mangrove research.
