Mangrove Calendar // Environmental Art & Education

We asked children around the globe, “What do the mangroves mean to you and your community?” So impressed were we with the creativity, imagination and talent displayed by these children, that we decided to turn their art into an annual calendar.

The Mangrove Action Project (MAP) brings mangrove forests into the classroom to connect young people to their coastal environments. It’s a unique opportunity for them to learn through creative participation about the vital importance and beauty of the mangrove forest. Each year since 2001, we have invited teachers and their students to participate in the art contest to raise both awareness and interest about mangroves. Intriguing talks, fascinating facts, videos, field trips, games and activities introduce the children into the wonderful world of mangroves and inspires their artworks. This year we reached nearly 2500 students, aged between 6 and 16, in 30 schools across 12 countries.

The artworks entered were incredibly stunning and expressive and have resulted in one of our most beautiful calendars to date. This year we’ve gone that little bit further with the calendar. Using soybased inks, the calendars were printed on FSC-certified 100% recycled paper to produce an earth friendly product. Many thanks to all those who took part in this year’s activities!
