Working alongside MAP
Like the Lorax of Seussian lore, MAP speaks for the trees. In order to restore mangroves around the world, MAP needs a strong network of support and advocacy. We depend on friends and neighbors to lend their hands and their skills, to spread the word and be speakers themselves. Do you have skills you want to nurture in promoting awareness about the environment, mangroves, and sustainable food practices? Are you a self-starter and want to learn about working at an international NGO? Check out our pages on internships and volunteering programs! Positions are available in the US and abroad.

Here are other ways in which you can help:
Are you a community leader or advocate in an area where mangroves grow? We have resources and tools available to implement coastal protection and mangrove rehabilitation, such as our IHOF toolkits and Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) workshops.
EMR Illustrated Manuals
Teachers and educators would benefit from MAP’s Marvelous Mangrove curriculum, already being taught in countries such as Australia, China, Brazil and Belize. For those who themselves want to learn more, MAP has a wealth of resources available on a wide variety of topics.
Climate change is one of the greatest threats to mangrove forests, but mangroves can also help mitigate the rise in atmospheric CO2. Mangrove forests act as incredible carbon sinks, more so than their terrestrial counterparts. Supporting programs such as MAP’s Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration and Marvelous Mangroves Curriculum help MAP conserve and rehabilitate mangroves, which in turn helps sequester carbon and combat global warming and sea level rise! Find out the area of mangroves necessary to absorb your vehicle emissions!
Do you like to talk? Do you like mangroves? Spread the word! Spreading awareness of the issues is one of the best ways to help MAP and the environment. Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors about mangroves, and help turn them into MAP’s friends and neighbors!
Do you eat shrimp? Shrimp farming is the number one cause of mangrove deforestation. You can learn more about MAP’s campaign to Question Your Shrimp. Sign the pledge to avoid eating imported shrimp, and support restaurants and markets that do the same!
