Mangrove Photography Awards 2022 Open
Mangrove Action Project has launched its eighth annual Mangrove Photography Awards this 24th June. The competition invites all photographers around the world to contribute their images to celebrate the beauty, diversity and fragility of mangrove forests and help inspire action to conserve them. Mangroves are simultaneously one of the world’s most important ecosystems, and one of the most threatened. Although still considered by many as undervalued wastelands, your impactful images have the power to tell a very different story!
Who?
The competition is FREE to enter and is open to EVERYONE; all photography beginners, enthusiasts and professionals around the world, of any age and level. Those who are 21 years old from or on 22nd July 2021, will enter the Youth Mangrove Photography Awards.
When?
The competition opens for entries on 24th June 2022 at 9.00AM, BST, and closes at midnight on 22nd June, 2022, BST.
How?
Head over to the Mangrove Photography Awards website, choose which categories you would like to enter, and submit up to 6 images into each category; except for Mangroves & Stories category which requires you to submit 6 images. You may enter as many categories as you wish. There are six categories that appeal to a range of interests and approaches, including a new category; Mangrove & Stories, which showcases a photographer’s portfolio of work illustrating a commitment towards conservation and a powerful story about our mangroves.
Why?
The Mangrove Photography Awards offers everyone the opportunity to raise their voices for the protection of one of our most critical and undervalued ecosystems. All submissions will be part of a global online exhibition on July 26th, to celebrate World Mangrove Day. There are more prizes this year including a $500 grand prize for the overall winner. Your work will be viewed and and judged this year by some exciting experts in the field; Beverly Joubert, Dhritiman Mukherjee, Bertie Gregory, Nadia Aly and Octavio Aburto.

Last year’s competition received over a thousand entries with some unique images showing the underwater world of mangroves, magnificent and endangered wildlife, fly-over aerials, and a passion to protect and restore these vital ecosystems. The Mangrove Photography Awards gives us a fascinating insight into the world of mangroves from all corners of the earth. We invite you to come and get involved.
