Dominic Wodehouse, PhD
Executive Director & CBEMR Trainer
After a decade in international advertising in London, Kiev, Bangkok and Jakarta, Dominic changed direction to follow his passion for forest conservation. While working for Wetlands International in Southeast Asia as a technical officer, he pursued an MSc in Sustainable Development at Imperial College London/SOAS. This led to a PhD at Bangor University (UK) examining community mangrove management and restoration in Thailand and the Philippines, while concurrently teaching MAP’s “Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration” best practices in several countries.
Dominic became MAP’s Executive Director in 2020, upon completion of his PhD. Dom has authored or coauthored several scholarly papers, including his PhD thesis, Towards successful community mangrove management and rehabilitation and Mangrove area and propagule number planting targets produce sub-optimal rehabilitation and afforestation outcomes. He is a member of the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group and co-leads the Global Mangrove Alliance’s Implementation Group.
“MAP is the crucial link between science & best practice and what happens on the ground. Capacity to manage and restore mangroves makes the difference between communities living sustainably or exhausting resources, surviving a hurricane or disappearing, being part of the solution to the climate crisis or being a victim.”
