Scientists May Have Identified a Culprit Behind Declining Amazon Rains
BRAZIL – The Amazon rainforest is one of Earth’s most diverse ecosystems, playing a key role in maintaining regional and global climate stability. However, recent changes in land use, vegetation, and the climate have disrupted biosphere-atmosphere interactions, leading to significant alterations in the water, energy, and carbon cycles. These disturbances have far-reaching consequences for the entire Earth system. Here, we quantify the relative contributions of deforestation and global climate change to observed shifts in key Amazonian climate parameters.

Mangrove recovery can’t outpace ocean warming
GLOBAL – After decades of heavy losses, the destruction of coastal mangrove forests has slowed as their importance is recognised. But according to a new study a shock awaits in the future, because the oceans are warming too fast for that mangrove recovery process to keep up.
Asia Leads Global Mangrove Losses
GLOBAL – While Southeast Asia remains home to the largest areas of mangrove forests in the world at 49,500km2, or around one third of global mangrove cover, it has also seen the greatest destruction of these ecosystems.
Hurricanes loom as the newest challenge to threatened mangroves
USA – Last year’s hurricanes did more than swamp low-lying areas and flood homes. It also killed a lot of mangroves, acting as natural buffers along Sarasota Bay.
Shields of the Shore: Mangrove Ecosystem Shifts and Climate Vulnerability in Mozambique
MOZAMBIQUE – Due to its vulnerability to climate-driven floods and storms, Mozambique faces significant challenges in coastal planning due to limited reliable data. This study introduces an innovative framework that assesses mangrove extent and coastal vulnerability.
Bengal tigers: Unsung heroes of the Sundarbans mangroves
BANGLADESH – Without the presence of these “Royal Bengal Tigers,” as they’re often referred to in the region, it’s unlikely that this tropical coastal swamp would spread across its impressive 140,000 hectares.
After Three Years Advancing Mangrove Restoration in Latin America and the Caribbean, the MangRes Project Enters Its Second Phase
LATIN AMERICA – With restoration at the heart of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, MangRes stands as a model of inclusive, nature-based solutions aligned with national biodiversity targets.
