Marsassoum under threat: The disappearance of the mangrove causes the collapse of fishing and rice cultivation
SENEGAL – The town of Marsassoum, in the Sédhiou region, is facing a major ecological and socioeconomic disaster: the silent disappearance of the mangrove. This vital ecosystem, once a natural shield and nursery for the ocean, is dwindling at an alarming rate, leaving serious consequences for local life.

INDONESIA – Sepriyanto, a local mangrove conservation manager in Muara Village, Tangerang Regency, said he is focused on preserving the coastal mangrove ecosystem. “The mangrove ecosystem in Tanjung Burung Village has been completely wiped out,” he added, explaining that since 2015, the area has been converted into upscale residential zones.
