Goal: The goal of this trip was to introduce MAP’s ‘Coastal Education Program’ (CEP) in Dangriga, Belize, by engaging local schools and teachers in environmental education about mangroves and coastal ecosystems. What we did

We piloted the Coastal Education Program in several schools in Dangriga, where students engaged in hands-on activities about mangrove ecosystems, including examining mangrove soil and understanding saltwater density. With gratitude to the Levine Family Foundation for funding and the EU’s RESEMBID program for supporting the expansion, we trained 18 teachers in mangrove biology and ecology, providing lessons at Gra Gra Lagoon and South Water Caye Marine Reserve, and aligning our curriculum with Belize’s environmental standards.

Additionally, thanks to support from Purpose on the Planet and WWF Belize, we conducted a two-day mangrove restoration workshop in Dangriga Town Hall for MPA managers, Forest Department officers, NGO staff, teachers, and students, covering community-based ecological restoration techniques and conducting a field trip to study mangrove features and restoration potential.
