What we did
From 1–3 August, Queensland educators took part in a free, hands-on workshop led by Mangrove Action Project and BMRG. Teachers were introduced to the 300-page Marvellous Mangroves guide, which emphasises hands-on, accessible learning. Each activity is designed to use simple, low-cost materials commonly found at home, making it easy for teachers to demonstrate key scientific and ecological principles without needing specialised equipment. This practical approach empowers teachers to deliver engaging lessons with minimal barriers.
By combining science, storytelling, and local collaboration, Marvellous Mangroves of Queensland equips teachers to foster the next generation of coastal stewards through active, place-based learning.
“The program makes connections with the Science curriculum for the Years 4 – 7 classes as the content supports and extends the curriculum with authentic, meaningful and ‘fun’ learning” - Kaye Beston, Principal of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School
