SE ASIA – A new EU-backed project will explore the connectivity and management of three coastal ecosystems: coral reefs, mangroves and seagrass meadows, to assess interconnected coastal ecosystems vital for biodiversity, climate resilience and human wellbeing.
Mangrove Chemical Secrets Could Help Breed Salt-Proof Crops
INDIA – A new systematic review has now pulled together the scattered evidence explaining how mangroves chemically survive one of the harshest environments on Earth, and the answer may hold the key to breeding salt-tolerant crops for a world of rising seas and degrading soils.
Biodiversity credits shouldn’t copy the carbon market playbook
GLOBAL – The biodiversity credit market should stop trying to copy the carbon market’s method of reducing everything to one tradable unit, a new op-ed argues.
Global mangrove distribution on the open coast is controlled by waves
GLOBAL – Understanding why mangroves are present at a location can provide causal links for mangrove management, restoration science and climate change adaptation.
