INDIA – In the 1980s, when much of Gujarat’s coastline was losing its mangrove cover, some coastal communities began protecting the few patches that remained. What looked like a small act of conservation would eventually become part of one of India’s most striking mangrove recoveries.

USA – Researchers at the University of South Florida (USF) are putting mangroves under the microscope to see if these plants are acting like “sinks” for microplastics.

INDIA – The seed-containing rakhis can later be sown in suitable soil, allowing the seeds to germinate and grow into plants.

BRAZIL – Restoration efforts have helped recover 18.2 hectares of mangrove, while more than 64,500 mangrove seedlings have been planted.

BANGLADESH – Barclays Bank is facing a formal complaint over its financial links to a coal-fired power station near the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest and home to millions of people in Bangladesh and India.

USA – Mangroves may not be the first thing that comes to mind when people think about a pet, but Florida teenager Alex Webster is turning that idea into a unique environmental mission.
